Bernardo Arevalo Wins Guatemala Presidential Election

Bernardo Arevalo has won the Presidential election in Guatemala. The preliminary results declared by the country’ Supreme Electoral Tribunal showed that Bernanrdo got 58% of the 99% counted votes as compared to 37% votes secured by his rival Sandra Torres.
The current Guatemalan president Alejandro Giammattei congratulated Arevalo on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, and invited him to start an "ordered transition" once results were formalized.
Bernardo Arevalo will be formally sworn in as the new president of Guatemala on 14th January 2024. The president of Guatemala has a term of 5 years and is directly elected by the popular ballot .
