India-Vietnam VINBAX 2025 Military Exercise Begins in Hanoi

The opening ceremony of the sixth edition of the India-Vietnam military exercise VINBAX was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The sixth edition of VINBAX 2025 is scheduled to be held from November 11 to November 29, 2025.
Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh and Vietnam’s Deputy Chief of General Staff, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, presided over the opening ceremony of the sixth edition of VINBAX in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The sixth edition of VINBAX 2025 is scheduled to be held from November 11 to November 29, 2025.
The 5th Vietnam-India bilateral army exercise “VINBAX 2024” was held in Ambala, Haryana.
Both countries share a comprehensive strategic partnership, and defence cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership. Vietnam is an important partner in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision.
According to the Ministry of Defence, VINBAX is a bilateral military exercise between India and Vietnam aimed at enhancing interoperability and sharing best practices in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
VINBAX 2025 is overall the sixth Vietnam-India peace exercise and their fourth field training exercise. It began in 2018 in India as a tabletop simulation and continued in Vietnam in 2019.
Around 300 personnel and heavy equipment will be deployed to refine engineering, medical, and search-and-rescue skills for United Nations missions.
To validate the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for coastal security in Karnataka and Kerala, a two-day coastal security exercise “Sagar Kavach,” organized by the Indian Coast Guard in collaboration with various maritime and coastal security stakeholders, concluded on November 7, 2025.
The objective of the exercise was to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance the overall preparedness of the maritime defence mechanism along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts.
The exercise was conducted in a real-time scenario simulating potential threats emanating from the sea, with the main aim of testing and refining SOPs.
It covered 320 km of coastline in Karnataka and 580 km in Kerala, including key ports and installations.
In a simulated scenario, a team representing ‘Red Force,’ acting as anti-national elements, was tasked with infiltrating the mainland, while ‘Blue Force’ countered and neutralized the threat.
The Indian Army is conducting the Brahmashira Exercise in the Rann and Creek sectors of Gujarat. This tri-service exercise is a major component of Exercise Trishul, which brings together the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and BSF.

In the Kutch sector, a joint exercise involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and BSF, in close coordination with the civil administration, is rehearsing integrated operational capability, demonstrating a civil-military fusion approach for integrated national security.
