India is hosting the in-person meetings of the BRICS Track on Cooperation in Information and Communication Technologies at Pune on 17th August, 2026, marking the start of the 7th Meeting of the BRICS Working Group for Cooperation in ICTs under India's BRICS Chairship. The meetings were inaugurated by Shri Amit Agrawal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, who welcomed delegations from all participating member countries.
The ICT Track under India's Chairship carries the theme "Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future," built around four key pillars. Agrawal noted that this meeting represents the continuation of a collaborative process running for several months, involving successive Working Group meetings, thematic webinars, and regular exchanges among experts, all aimed at building a shared understanding of priorities among member nations.
During the meeting, the Council of the BRICS Institute of Future Networks reviewed the work of its national branches and received updates from various Study Groups working on emerging tech areas.
The Study Groups presented updates on artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, internet applications in Industry 4.0, and electromagnetic field exposure. Following this, the Working Group took up priorities outlined in the Issues Note, discussed questions under each thematic pillar, and reviewed responses collected from member countries through a Survey Questionnaire. Concept notes submitted by different member nations were also discussed as part of the proceedings.
The meetings are set to continue with sessions from the Focus Group on Digital Public Infrastructure and the Digital BRICS Task Force, continuing India's push to strengthen technology cooperation among BRICS nations.
