Global Fisheries Conference India 2023 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat

The Global Fisheries Conference India 2023 will be opened on November 21, 2023, in Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Shri Parshottam Rupala. The notion has therefore assumed the form of a two-day conference from November 21st to 22nd, 2023, on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, which is observed worldwide.

• The Department of Fisheries came up with the idea for the Global Fisheries Conference India 2023.
• It seeks to chart a course for the Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture sector in collaboration with stakeholders throughout the fisheries value chain.
• India is the third largest fish-producing country, accounting for around 8% of world fish output. 
• The nation is also the world's second largest producer of aquaculture. 
• The Government of India will hold a two-day Global Fisheries Conference 2023 in Gujarat Science City in Hebatpur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
• The event is set for November 21 and 22, coinciding with World Fisheries Day.
• It will be hosted by India's Department of Fisheries, which is part of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy.

• More than 10 nations have confirmed their participation, including France, Norway, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Greece, Spain, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe. 
• Over 50 foreign ambassadors are expected to attend the meeting online.
• The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) will also be there.

• The conference, themed 'Celebrating Fisheries and Aquaculture Wealth,' seeks to bring important players together for beneficial conversations, market insights, and networking.
• It acts as a forum for forging collaborations with national and international players, as well as outlining a strategy for long-term growth in India's fisheries industry.

Global Participation: Delegations and Diplomats

• Delegations from over ten nations have confirmed physical participation, including France, Norway, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Greece, Spain, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe. 
• Furthermore, around 50 foreign ambassadors are anticipated to electronically attend the session.

Industry Connect

• An 'Industry Connect' session will bring together industry players, policymakers, and others to discuss crucial problems such as the startup ecosystem, fishery sector collaboration, technology transfer, and capacity building.

World Fisheries Day

• Every year on November 21st, there is an observation of World Fisheries Day.
• The World Fisheries Forum (WFF) was founded on November 21, 1997, in New Delhi, by working fishermen and women representing the World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers from 18 nations.
