International Gita Mahotsav Inaugurated In Kurukshetra (Haryana)

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the International Gita Seminar and Geeta Mahotsav at Brahma Sarovar, Kurukshetra, Haryana on 17 December 2023.

The theme of the seminar is – “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Universal Unity”.
This year, International Geeta Mahotsav programs will be held from 7th December to 24th December. The main event will be organized from December 17 to December 24.
Assam is the main state partner in this programme.
It is organized by Kurukshetra Development Board, Haryana Tourism, District Administration, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, Information and Public Relations Department, Haryana.

The following programs will be organized during the festival -

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar formally inaugurated the Mahotsav with Geeta Yagya and puja at Brahma Sarovar during the main event held on 17 December.
After this, he also inaugurated a three-day international Geeta seminar at Kurukshetra University on the same day. This seminar will run from December 17-19.
Geeta Utsav programs will be organized in every district for two days on 22 and 23 December.
A conference on the pilgrimages of 48 Kos Kurukshetra will be organized at Kurukshetra University on 23rd December, in which representatives of 164 pilgrimage committees of Kurukshetra land will participate.
Haryana Pavilion related to Haryana's folk dance, crafts, small-scale industries, food etc. will be set up in the Mahotsav, through which the tourists and devotees coming to the Mahotsav will be able to get acquainted with the culture of Haryana.

History of International Geeta Mahotsav -

Beginning – Year 1989
Declared a national festival - year 2002 (by Geeta Jayanti Committee formed in 1992)
International Status - Year 2016
Geeta Jayanti – Celebrated every year on the Ekadashi of Shuklapaksha of Margashirsha month.

Geeta Mahotsav organized at international level -

In the year 2019, this festival was celebrated outside the country for the first time in Mauritius and London.
It was organized in Canada in September 2022.
The International Gita Mahotsav was organized in Australia in April 2023. The festival will be held in America in the year 2024.
Establishment of the first International Geeta Park – Brampton, Canada
The largest Bhagavad Gita 800 kg was manufactured in Milan, Italy which is kept in ISKCON temple Kurukshetra.
