India's Mohammed Siraj is the number one bowler in ICC ODI rankings Sport 4 min read

In its latest daily rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 20 September 2023, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been named the number one bowler.

Mohammad Siraj has gained eight places in the latest ICC rankings. Siraj moved straight from ninth position to first position.

Siraj took six wickets for 21 runs: 

  • Mohammed Siraj benefited from lethal bowling in the Asia Cup final. Because he took six wickets for 21 runs in the final.
  • This bowler took a total of 10 wickets in the Asia Cup. This is the second time that Siraj has become the number-one bowler. Before this, he had also been the number-one bowler in March 2023.

ODI bowling rankings:

  • Before Siraj, Josh Hazlewood of Australia was the number-one bowler. Apart from Hazlewood, Siraj also left behind bowlers like Trent Boult, Rashid Khan and Mitchell Starc.
  • Afghanistan's spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid have also improved their rankings to fourth and fifth, respectively, among ODI bowlers.
  • Apart from Siraj, there were only two other bowlers in the top 10 whose ranking improved. Keshav Maharaj of South Africa, who returned from injury, has improved significantly in the ranking.

ODI batting rankings:

  • South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen scored 174 runs at a strike rate of 209.64 in the fourth ODI against Australia at Centurion, helping South Africa register a 164-run win.
  • Klaasen moved up 20 places in the ODI batting rankings. He is now in ninth place.
  • At the same time, India's legendary batsman Virat Kohli also gained one place and has reached the eighth position.
