India wins 7 medals on Day 9 of the Hangzhou Asian Games

India wins 7 medals on Day 9 of the Hangzhou Asian Games Sport 4 min read

India added seven more medals to its tally on day 9 of the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou, China. India won three silver and four bronze medals on October 2, 2023.  Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee won a historic first ever women’s doubles table tennis bronze for India. 

A  strong 655- member Indian team is competing at the 19th Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The 19th edition of the Asian Games officially began on September 23,2023 and concluded on October 8,2023.

Medal Winners for India on day 9 of the Hangzhou Asian Games 

Gold Medal Winners 

India failed to win a single gold medal on day 9 of the 19th Asian Games.

Silver Medal Winners 

  • Reigning Asian Championship gold medallist Parul Chaudhary won a silver medal in the women's 3000 metre race. It was her first medal in the Asian Games. 
  •  22 year old Ancy Sojan Edappilly leapt a personal best of 6.63m to claim the women's long jump silver medal. 
  • The 4x400 metre mixed relay team of Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi, Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan set a new national record of  3 minutes 14.34 seconds to win the silver medal. The Indian team had initially finished the race third, but the second-placed Sri Lankan team were disqualified for a lane infringement. Thus the Indian quartet got the silver medal. 

Bronze medal Winners 

  • Priti Lamba won the bronze medal in the  women's 3000m steeplechase.
  • Indian women’s table tennis pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee  won the bronze medal. The Indian pair  lost 4-3 against Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong of North Korea in the women's doubles table tennis semi-final. It is India's first women's doubles Asian Games medal in table tennis.
  • India men’s team of Vikram Rajendra Ingale, Siddhant Rahul Kamble, Anandkumar Velkumar, Aryanpal Singh Ghuman won a bronze medal in the men's 3000m speed roller skating relay final.
  •  The Indian women’s team of Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu, Aarathy Kasturi Raj, Sanjana Bathula won 3000m speed roller skating a bronze medal in the women’s relay final. 

India finished the day 9 with 60 medals- 13 gold,24 silver and 23 bronze medals.
