At the 2024 Paris Paralympics Games, the Indian team achieved its best-ever medal haul in a single edition of the Paralympics Games. At the end of day seven (3 September 2024), the Indian athletes had won 20 medals, going past the record of 19 medals won at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics Games.
Sharad Kumar’s silver and Mariyappan Thangavelu’s bronze medals in the men’s high jump T63 event took the Indian medal tally at the Paris Paralympics to 20.
In the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, India won 19 medals- five gold, eight silver and six bronze.

Sumit Antil holds the world record in the javelin F-64 class with a throw of 73.29 meters.
Shooter Avni Lakhera is the first Indian para-athlete to successfully defend her title at the Paralympics Games. She won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle shooting standing SHI category at the Paris and the Tokyo Paralympics Games.
