At the 2024 Paris Paralympics Games, the Indian team achieved its best-ever medal haul in a single edition of the Paralympics Games. At the end of day seven (3 September 2024), the Indian athletes had won 20 medals, going past the record of 19 medals won at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics Games. 

Sharad Kumar’s silver and Mariyappan Thangavelu’s bronze medals in the men’s high jump T63 event took the Indian medal tally at the Paris Paralympics to 20.

In the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, India won 19 medals- five gold, eight silver and six bronze. 

India, at the end of day seven of the 2024 Paralympics Games, won 20 medals- three gold medals, seven silver medals, and 10 bronze.

Sumit Antil,1st male para-athlete to defend his title 

By winning the gold medal in the male javelin F-64 class event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, he became the first Indian male para-athlete to defend his title in the history of the Paralympics Games. Sumit Antil won the gold medal in the same event in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Sumit won the gold in Paris with a Paralympics record throw of 70.59 meters.

Sumit Antil holds the world record in the javelin F-64 class with a throw of  73.29 meters.

Shooter Avni Lakhera is the first Indian para-athlete to successfully defend her title at the Paralympics Games. She won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle shooting standing SHI category at the Paris and the Tokyo Paralympics Games.

India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics Games 

The International Paralympics Committee is organising the 17th Summer Paralympics Games in Paris, France, from 28 August to 8 September 2024.

A strong 84 Indian para-athletes are participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics Games.

The Indian para-athletes are competing in 12 out of 22 sports at the Paris Paralympics.
