The ODI World Cup of 2023 commenced in India on October 5. The very first match was held between England and New Zealand at Ahmedabad.
About the Cricket World Cup
- The Cricket World Cup, officially known as ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, is an international One Day International (ODI) cricket championship.
- The International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport's governing body, organizes this event every four years, with preliminary qualification rounds leading to a final tournament.
- This tournament is considered the "flagship event of the international cricket calendar" by the ICC and is one of the world's most widely viewed sporting events.
- The first Cricket World Cup was held in England in June 1975, four years after the inaugural ODI cricket match.
- The ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup in India will be followed by the joint hosting of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, while India and Bangladesh will jointly host the 2031 World Cup.
The mascots for the 2023 ODI World Cup are Blaze and Tonk.
India at the ODI World Cup
The ICC World Cup was held in India in 1987, 1996 and 2011 with other countries, but the 2023 ICC World Cup is solely in India.
India has won two ICC World Cups till now, the 1983 ICC World Cup and the 2011 ICC World Cup.
