Al Sisi Elected President Of Egypt For The Third Time Person in News 4 min read

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been elected as the President of Egypt for the third consecutive time. The National Election Authority announced on 18 December 2023 that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had received 89.6 percent of the votes in the election.

  • While runner-up Hazem Omar, who leads the Republican People's Party, received 4.5 percent of the vote.
  • There was 66.8 percent voting in the elections held in Egypt on 10-12 December 2023. This turnout is much higher than the previous election in 2018, which was 41 percent.

Al-Sisi elected president for third consecutive term:

  • None of the three other candidates had a higher profile than al-Sisi.
  • Al-Sisi will remain in power for another six years for a third consecutive term.
  • President al-Sisi did not face any serious challenge in the elections. There was resentment among the people about Egypt's slow economy.
  • But due to the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, President Al-Sisi was successful in dealing with it, which went in support of it.

About Abdel Fatah al-Sisi:

  • Al-Sisi is a former army general. Al-Sisi was democratically elected for the first time in 2014.
  • After that he won the election in 2018.
  • In 2019, through a constitutional amendment, the tenure of the President was increased from four years to six years.
  • Also, the limit for continuous tenure in the office of the President was increased from two to three times.
  • Al-Sisi is now set to serve his final term – in accordance with the constitution – which will begin in April.
