17 year old Aditi Gopichand Swami became the youngest archer to win a gold medal at an individual event at the World Archery Championships. She defeated Andrea Becerra of Mexico in the final played in Berlin,Germany on 5th August 2023.
Aditi Gopichand Swami is currently U18 world champion and world record holder.
India finished the World Archery Championship 2023 with four medals- three golds and one bronze .
Before the start of the Berlin event India had won a total of 11 medals- 9 silver and 2 bronze at the World Archery Championships.
Ojas Pravin Deotale defeated Poland’s Lukasz Przybylski in the men’s individual compound event to win gold. He became the first Indian male archer to win a gold medal at the world championships.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur and Aditi Gopichand Swami won the first ever gold medal for India in the World Archery Championship. They won the gold medal in the women's compound team event.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam won the bronze medal in women's individual compound event .
The 2023 World Archery Championships was held from 31 July to 6 August 2023 in Berlin, Germany . The event was also a qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympics to be held in Paris, France.
The World Archery Championships is organised by the World Archery Federation every two years .
