On January 26, 2024, Tata Group and France's Airbus signed an agreement to manufacture civil helicopters "with significant indigenization and localization components." Under this agreement, both companies will manufacture H125 helicopters, which were signed during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to New Delhi.
- The agreement was signed during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India as the chief guest at India's 75th Republic Day celebrations.
- Both companies finalised this agreement during the visit of Emmanuel Macron. Under this, Tata and Airbus will work together on the manufacturing of H125 helicopters.
Where will the H125 helicopter be manufactured?
- Its manufacturing will be done in Vadodara, Gujarat. The H125 helicopter, jointly manufactured by Airbus and Tata Group, is a single engine helicopter.
Construction will be done for commercial use:
- According to another report, these helicopters will be made for commercial use. Tata Group's Tata Advanced Systems Limited Company (TASL) will manage the assembly line for these helicopters.
- According to officials associated with its construction, there is already a demand for 600 to 800 helicopters on the market from interested buyers. These helicopters will be manufactured in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Manufacturing of C-295 transport aircraft:
- Both Tata-Airbus companies will also manufacture at least 40 C-295 transport aircraft at the Vadodara facility. It will be supervised by Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
Strengthening defence relations between India and France:
- In this, relations between the two countries are growing rapidly, especially in the defence, nuclear energy and space sectors. The recent Tata-Airbus H125 deal between the two countries is expected to meet the growing demand for these helicopters in India.
- By the way, both countries are already jointly manufacturing 40 C295 transport aircraft. Earlier in September 2021, India had signed a deal worth about Rs 21,000 crore with Airbus Defense and Space (ADSpace).
- In this, a partnership was made to purchase C-295 aircraft in place of the old Avro-748. During this period, 56 aircrafts were demanded, out of which 40 are being built in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Strengthening Self-Reliant India Programme:
- The ‘Final Assembly Line’ (FAL) will be the first example of the private sector setting up a helicopter manufacturing facility in India.
- This will serve as a boost to the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative undertaken by the Government of India.
- Helicopters are important for nation-building.
Tata to set up India's first helicopter assembly facility:
- Tata Group is excited to establish the inaugural private-sector helicopter assemble facility in India. The facility will house the final assembly line in partnership with Airbus for the world's best-selling Airbus H125 single-engine helicopter for the Indian and export markets.
Uses of H125 helicopter:
- This multi-mission workhorse will revolutionise passenger and freight transportation.
- It will also be used for areas such as emergency medical services (HEMS), disaster management, law enforcement, tourism and air task missions.
