Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme 55 stations in Uttar Pradesh were selected for revamping and rejuvenation. On 6 August Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the selection of 55 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme.
The project will be executed in a phased manner with focus on the station’s usage for the next 50 years.
These 508 stations are spread across 27 states and union territories, including 55 each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The selected stations will get a revamped circulating area at the main entrance and redesigned second entrance with a facade inspired from local art, heritage and culture.
Three railway stations in Lucknow — Aishbagh, Badshahnagar, and Utrethia — will be redeveloped. Other key stations included in the project are Varanasi, Kanpur Central, Prayagraj, Unnao, Virangana Lakshmibai (Jhansi) and Sultanpur.
The Amrit Bharat Station scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach. It involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation in phases to improve the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station.
The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multimodal integration, amenities for Divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks, ‘Roof Plazas’ as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centres at the station in the long term.
