World Environment Day 2025: Rajasthan launches Vande Ganga Campaign

The Rajasthan government has launched a statewide “Vande Ganga water conservation campaign” to address the issue of water scarcity in the state. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma launched the campaign, which aims to make it a jan bhagidari for water conservation.

The campaign was launched on the 5th of June 2025, which is also World Environment Day.

The campaign also coincides with the Ganga Dusshera, which is being observed on 5th June 2025.

Ganga Dusshera is celebrated to mark the descent of Goddess Ganga from Swarg to Earth.

Duration of the Vande Ganga water conservation campaign

• The Vande Ganga water conservation campaign commenced on 5th June 2025 and will continue till 20th June 2025.
• The campaign will be conducted in all 41 districts of the state.

Aims of the  Vande Ganga Water campaign 

• To encourage people to participate in water conservation efforts.
• Cleaning and repairing of various water bodies of the state before the onset of the monsoon.
• Plantation of trees under the ‘Mission Hariyalo Rajasthan’, that was launched on 7th August 2024. It aims to plant 50 crores of trees in the state in the next five years. 
• It will also encourage sustainable water practices across Rajasthan’s drought-prone regions.
• It will focus on rejuvenating groundwater and promoting rainwater harvesting under the  Karmabhoomi se Matribhumi campaign.
• Various projects will be inaugurated under the  Karmabhoomi se Matribhumi campaign.
• The  Karmabhoomi se Matribhumi campaign is inspired by the Catch the rain campaign, which focuses on rainwater collection and recharging of groundwater replenishment.
• It will also focus on raising awareness about the threat of plastic pollution as it is the theme of the 2025 World Environment Day.
• The campaign will integrate environmental awareness with cultural values and feature symbolic events such as the Vande Ganga Kalash Yatra and ceremonial rituals at key reservoirs to strengthen public resolve toward conservation.

PM Modi plants a Sindoor Sapling on World Environment Day 2025

• On June 5, 2025, on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.
• The plant was gifted to him by the women of Kutch, Gujarat, who had displayed extraordinary courage during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

• Since 1973, every year the 5th of June has been observed as World Environment Day to raise awareness about environmental pollution and the need to protect the Earth’s environment.
