Chambal River Front Launched in Kota

The Rajasthan government inaugurated the much-awaited Chambal riverfront project in Kota on 12 September. The inauguration ceremony was attended by actors Deepika Padukon and Ranveer Singh and folk dancers from across the state.

The estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 1,400 crore spent under various projects like riverfront, oxygen park, statues, traffic-free roads, LED park etc.

About Chambal River Front Project

The project built on the Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam theme has 22 ghats. They all have different stories. Ambassadors from 25 countries will also be present for the first time to see this model.

• The project has been designed by Anoop Bartaria and is estimated to cost Rs 1,400 crore. It is expected to boost tourism in Kota and create employment opportunities for locals. 
• This project was started on June 17, 2020, and is built on the river just below the Kota Barrage Dam built on the Chambal River. 
• It is claimed that the 242-ft Chambal Mata statue made of marble is the first one of its kind in the world.
• The world’s largest gunmetal mask of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has been installed at Jawahar Ghat.The face mask is 12 meters high and three meters wide. Nehru had inaugurated the Kota Barrage in 1960.
• On Nandi Ghat, a 20-foot high statue of the Nandi weighing 1,000 tonnes has been installed.
• It is built from the barrage culvert of Kota city to Nayapura culvert, with a total length of 2.75 kilometers and a total of about 5.5 kilometers. 
• A Miyawaki jungle has been developed with almond trees, which gives an experience of temperature less than 7 degrees Celsius from the outside temperature.

Note: Miyawaki is a technique pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, that helps build dense, native forests. The approach is supposed to ensure that plant growth is 10 times faster and the resulting plantation is 30 times denser than usual.

About River Chambal

The Chambal River, called Charmanvati in ancient times, is the largest of the rivers flowing through Rajasthan State. 

• This is a major tributary of Yamuna which is 960 km long. Located in Central India, the river comprises a significant portion of the Greater Gangetic Drainage System. 
• The Chambal River runs according to a north to northeasterly itinerary through Madhya Pradesh, flowing for a considerable distance through Rajasthan, subsequently creating the border between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan prior to twisting to the southeast to meet the Yamuna in the state of Uttar Pradesh. 
• The Chambal River moves into Uttar Pradesh and runs for around 32 km prior to meeting the Yamuna River in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.
• River enters Rajasthan from Chaurasigarh, Chittorgarh.
• Origin: The perennial Chambal originates at Janapav, south of Mhow town, near Manpur, Indore, on the south slope of the Vindhya Range in Madhya Pradesh.
• Dams: There are four dams on the Chambal River, the Gandhi Sagar Dam (Madhya Pradesh), in Rajasthan the Jawahar Sagar Dam, the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, and the Kota Barrage. 
• Water fall: Chulia waterfall on the Chambal river in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.
• Tributaries: The Banas, Kali Sindh, Sipra, and Parbati are its chief tributaries.
