PM Modi lays foundation stone of 3rd unit of Deenbandhu Power Plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the 3rd unit of the 800 megawatt (MW) Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar, Haryana, on 14 April 2025. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Haryana on 14 April, where he laid the foundation stones of various development projects and inaugurated a road project.

Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant

The Prime Minister laid the foundation of an 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal Unit at Yamuna Nagar. The new thermal power plant will be built along the 2x 300MW Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant.

• The new thermal power plant will use coal to produce power. 
• It is being built by Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited, which the government of Haryana owns.
• An ultra-supercritical thermal power plant requires less coal per megawatt-hour and produces less carbon than conventional thermal power plants.
• It is less polluting and more efficient than a conventional power plant.

Terminal Building of the Maharaja Agrasen Airport 

• PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the Rs 410 crore second terminal building of the Maharaja Agrasen Airport at Hisar. 
• He also inaugurated the direct flight from  Maharaja Agrasen Airport at Hisar to the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
• During his speech,  Prime Minister Modi said that the number of airports in the country has increased from 74 in 2014 to over 150 in 2025.

Foundation stone of  Compressed Biogas Plant in Mukarabpur

• Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone of a  Compressed Biogas Plant in Mukarabpur, Yamunanagar.
• The plant is being built under the GOBARDhan, i.e. Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan, initiative of the government of India.
• The plant will have an annual production capacity of 2,600 metric tonnes of compressed biogas.
• It will start production from May 2027.
• It will use 45,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste and 36,000 tonnes of cow dung annually as feedstock to produce compressed biogas.

Inauguration of Rewari Bypass project

• The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 14.4 km Rewari Bypass project built under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. 
• The project, worth around Rs 1,070 crore, will decongest Rewari city and reduce Delhi–Narnaul travel time by around one hour.

About Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources dhan (GOBARdhan)

• Launched by the government of India in 2018. 
• It is an inter-ministerial government initiative to transform biodegradable and organic waste, including cattle dung, agricultural residues, and biomass, into high-value resources like biogas, CBG, and organic manure.
