Indian Railways Approves Rs 976 Crore Multitracking Project for Danapur-Fatuha Section in Bihar

Indian Railways has sanctioned a Rs 976 crore multitracking project for the 29-km Danapur-Fatuha section in Bihar, aimed at easing congestion on the busy Patna rail corridor. Approved for the East Central Railway, the project will add multiple new lines to boost both passenger and freight capacity, with 22 additional passenger trains and 18 additional freight trains expected to run daily once the work is complete.

1. The sanctioned work covers laying of the third and fourth lines between Danapur and Patna.
2. Building a third line between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Saheb
3. Adding a third and fourth line between Patna Saheb and Fatuha. 

Together, these additions will convert one of Bihar's busiest rail stretches into a multi-line corridor capable of handling significantly higher train traffic, reducing bottlenecks that currently slow down movement through the Patna region.

Capacity of Bihar Multitracking Project

Once operational, the new lines are expected to substantially cut congestion and operational delays, improving punctuality across the section. 

The project forms part of the larger quadrupling initiative on the Delhi–Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Patna–Kiul–Bhagalpur–Khanna–Howrah route, one of India's key high-density rail corridors. 

This stretch has also been marked under Indian Railways' Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor, underlining its importance for moving bulk freight tied to industrial and infrastructure activity.

Freight and Passenger Benefits

1. With the added tracks, the section is set to accommodate a higher volume of daily passenger and freight trains, directly benefiting commuters on the Patna corridor while improving logistics for industries relying on rail transport. 
2. The upgraded line is expected to play a key role in supporting the upcoming 2,120 MW thermal power plant at Chausa in Bihar's Buxar district, which will depend heavily on rail movement for transporting bulk commodities. 
3. Beyond immediate capacity gains, the project reflects Indian Railways' broader push to strengthen heavily used routes, improve freight logistics, upgrade passenger services, and support Bihar's long-term economic and infrastructure growth.
