Indian shooter Amanpreet Singh Clinches Gold at ISSF

Indian shooter Amanpreet Singh won the gold medal in Men’s 25 meter standard pistol shooting event at the ISSF World Championship 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Indian shooter topped the field of 50 shooters with 577 points from 60 shots. The Republic of Korea’s Gunhyeok Lee settled for silver with 574 (17 X’s) while Kevin Chapon of France claimed bronze with 574 (11 X’s). 

Key highlight of the matches played by India

• In the Women’s 25 meter Standard Pistol shooting event, while Tiyana, Yashita Shokeen and Kritika Sharma failed to make it to the medal round in the individual competition, they managed to win the team bronze with a combined score of 1601. The two medals on the day took India’s tally in the Championship to nine – five gold and four bronze medals.
• The Indian team comprising Harsh Gupta (fourth with 573) and Akshay Jain (545) besides Amanpreet, however, narrowly missed a team medal, finishing fourth behind China, Germany and Korea, with a combined total of 1695.

About ISSF World Shooting Championship 

• The ISSF World Shooting Championships are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships.
• ISSF World Championship 2023 is a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, competitions are also being held in non-Olympic disciplines. The 25m standard pistol shooting is a non-Olympic shooting event.
• While all the finals of Olympic shooting events at the ISSF World Championships will be over by August 24, the competition for non-Olympic events will conclude on August 31.
