Indian Railways wins MCC-Murugappa Gold Hockey Cup 2023

The Indian Railways men’s hockey team defeated Hockey Karnataka 5-2 in the final to win the 94th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup. The final was played at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai on 3rd September 2023.

The MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup returned to the city of Chennai after 2019,which was won by Indian Oil Corporation.

Pratap Lakra of Indian Railways was the hero of the match who scored a  hat-trick of goals.

The Indian Railways team won a cash prize of Rs 7 lakhs and the runners up Hockey Karnataka got a prize of Rs 5 lakhs.

The 94th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup was held at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai from 23rd August to 3rd September 2023. This year 10 teams participated in the tournament and were grouped in two.

MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup is one of the oldest hockey tournaments in India . It  initially started as the Madras Challenge Cup in 1901 and later its name was changed to Murugappa Gold Cup.
