2024-25 Ranji Trophy Final: First Inning lead gives Vidarbha 3rd title

The Vidarbha cricket team won their third Ranji Trophy title by virtue of a first-innings lead against Kerala in the final, played at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur.

Vidarbha team, led by Akshay Wadkar, also put behind the disappointment of last year's loss to Mumbai in the final.

In this year's semi-final, Vidarbha took its revenge and defeated last year's champion Mumbai, while Kerala knocked out Gujarat by virtue of a first innings lead.

Vidarbha won their first Ranji trophy title in 2017-18 and again in 2018-19.

It was the first ever final for the Kerala team in the Ranji Trophy tournament. The final of the Ranji Trophy was held at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur from 26 February- 2 March 2025.

2024-25 Ranji Trophy final 

In the final, Kerala Captain Sachin Baby won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Vidarbha, in the first inning, were all out for 379 runs. For Vidarbha, Danish Malewar was the top scorer with 153, and Karun Nair chipped in with 86 runs. In reply, Kerala was all out on 342 runs, conceding a vital 37 runs to Vidarbha. Kerala Captain Sachin Baby was the top scorer for his side with 98 runs.

In the second innings, Vidharbha were 375 for nine when the match was called off as a draw. Vidarbha was declared the winner by virtue of its 37-run lead in the first innings.

Man of the Match: Danish Malewar of Vidarbha 

Player of the Tournament: Harsh Dubey of Vidarbha for his 476 runs and 69 wickets during the 2024-25 Ranji season.

About Ranji Trophy 

The Ranji Trophy is the premier domestic first-class cricket championship for men in India. The Ranji Trophy was started by the cricket’s governing body in India, the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), in honour of K.S. Ranjit Singhji.

The Nawab of Jamnagar, K.S. Ranjit Ranjit Singhji, never played for India and represented England in Test matches.

The Ranji trophy was started in 1934-35, with cricket powerhouse Mumbai (earlier known as Bombay) being the winner.

32 teams participated in the 2024-25 season and were divided into four groups. The winner of the group played in the semi-finals.

Most Successful Team in Ranji Trophy 

Mumbai (or Bombay) is the most successful team in the history of the Ranji Trophy. It has won it 42 times. 

Karnataka is the second most successful team with 8 titles won, followed by Delhi (7 times) and Baroda 6 times.

Mumbai  was the Ranji champion in 2024-24.
