Delhi Airport Ranks 5th Busiest in APAC in 2025

According to the latest OAG data, Delhi Airport has been ranked the 5th busiest airport in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region in 2025. With 46.18 million one-way departure seats, the airport made a major jump from 9th position in 2019.

This strong growth reflects India’s rising domestic air travel demand and rapid capacity expansion by major companies such as IndiGo.
According to OAG, which measures airport traffic based on one-way departure seat capacity. This sharp improvement shows how quickly India’s aviation industry has recovered and grown after the pandemic.
OAG data shows that the increase in Delhi Airport’s seat capacity was driven by both domestic and international routes. This ranking is entirely based on scheduled airline seat supply, not passenger footfall.
Moving from 9th position in 2019 to 5th in 2025 shows a structural shift in Asia Pacific aviation trends. India’s growing middle class, affordable airfares and improved airport infrastructure have significantly boosted demand.
In 2025, Delhi Airport surpassed several established global aviation hubs. These include,
Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (39.49 million seats)
Singapore Changi Airport (42.57 million seats)
Seoul Incheon International Airport (43.40 million seats)
In 2019, these airports were far busier than Delhi. This shift in rankings indicates India’s growing influence in Asia Pacific aviation.
A major reason behind Delhi Airport moving up in the list of the busiest airports in APAC is IndiGo’s rapid expansion. The airline has quickly increased fleet size, added new routes and improved connectivity from Delhi.
IndiGo’s focus on high-frequency domestic routes and expansion of international operations has directly increased seat capacity.
The airline’s low-cost model is increasing demand in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, leading to higher traffic at Delhi Airport.
