SBI Card has announced a 1% extra fee on high-value transport and fuel spends. The new charges start on 1 December 2026, as per a notice dated 27 October 2026.
SBI Card will charge an extra 1% on two kinds of spending: single transport payments above a set limit, and total fuel spending above a set limit in one billing cycle. The fee depends on the amount spent and the merchant category code (MCC) of the transaction.
The fuel fee is based on your total fuel spending in one billing cycle, not on a single payment. It covers MCCs 5172, 5541, 5542 and 5983.
No. Once your fuel spending crosses Rs 50,000, the 1% fee applies to the whole fuel amount. For example:
Spending of Rs 50,000 or less in a cycle will not be charged.
Who will be affected?: Customers who often make large transport payments or spend heavily on fuel with their SBI credit card will see higher costs. Others will not be affected.
