Ministry of Tribal Affairs Launched TribeX – A Digital Learning Platform for Tribal Arts

On July 7, 2026, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram launched TribeX, India's first dedicated digital learning platform for tribal arts, culture, languages, and traditional knowledge. The launch took place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, during the inaugural session of the two-day National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs). 

What is TribeX?

• A first-of-its-kind digital learning ecosystem by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs
• Aims to preserve, promote and globally showcase India's tribal heritage
• Connects learners worldwide directly with tribal knowledge experts and master artisans
• Also functions as a digital repository documenting tribal languages, oral traditions and cultural practices

Features of TribeX Digital Learning Platform

• 20 free certificate courses covering tribal paintings, handicrafts, handloom, artifacts, and musical instruments, with plans to expand to over 100 courses
• 5 UGC-recognised one-year hybrid diploma programmes
• A Learning Management System (LMS) and Repository Management System for secure learning and progress tracking
• A Heritage Archive with over 5,000 multimedia resources (audio, video, literature), set to expand to 10,000

MoU Signed Between Indian Government and Ministry of Tribal Affairs

An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, to jointly develop the UGC-recognised diploma programmes offered under TribeX.

TribeX offers five UGC-recognized one-year hybrid diploma programmes, namely, 

1. Tribal Language: Santali (Ol Chiki)
2. Sustainable Tribal Culture Based Livelihood Practices
3. Museology and Tribal Museum Management
4. Tribal Arts and Crafts of India
5. Tribal Textiles
