Parliament passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order Amendment Bill 2023 on 9 August. The Lok Sabha had already cleared the bill while the Rajya Sabha passed it on 9 August.
The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Castes in Chhattisgarh.
The Bill includes Mahara and Mahara communities as synonyms for Mehra, Mahar and Mehar communities in Chhattisgarh.
The Parliament also passed the Research National Research Foundation Bill-2023 on 9 August.
The Bill aims to establish a National Research Foundation for Research to provide significant high-level guidance for research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering and technology and natural sciences, including environmental and earth sciences.
The Parliament passed the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill-2023 on 9th August itself.
According to the Bill, a person can use personal data of an individual for a legal purpose based on his consent and for certain lawful uses.
The Bill provides for the establishment of the Data Protection Board of India.
In case of personal data breach, the Board will investigate the matter and impose a penalty.
Personal data is information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. Businesses as well as government entities process personal data for the delivery of goods and services.
The processing of personal data helps to understand the preferences of individuals, which may be useful for developing optimization, targeted advertising and recommendations. The processing of personal data may also help law enforcement.
