In the assembly elections held on 7 November 2023 in the north-eastern state of Mizoram (counting on 4 December), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has obtained a majority by winning 27 seats (total 40 seats). ZPM has managed to defeat Zoramthanga of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF).
Position of other parties in Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023:
- In the Mizoram Assembly elections 2023, apart from ZPM, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has got 10 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got 2 seats and Congress has got 1 seat.
- In the elections held in total 40 seats of Mizoram Assembly, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) achieved majority by winning 27 seats, which required 21 seats for majority.
- Mizo National Front was formed under the leadership of former IPS Lalduhoma.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga resigns:
- Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has submitted his resignation to Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati.
- Since 1984, the northeastern state of Mizoram has been in power, sometimes under Congress and sometimes under Mizo National Front (MNF) governments.
Election results of five state assembly elections 2023:
- It is noteworthy that assembly elections were held in five states in November 2023. Out of these election results, Bharatiya Janata Party has got absolute majority in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, while in Telangana, Congress Party has got majority by defeating Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
- The election results of these four states were declared on 3 December 2023 while the counting of votes for Mizoram Assembly elections was done on 4 December.
