Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 in New Delhi on 23 May 2025. The summit aims to showcase the eight northeastern states' trade and investment potential and encourage international and domestic investment in these states.

The  Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 will be held in New Delhi on 23 and 24th of May 2025.

The inaugural session of the Investors Summit 2025 was attended by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram, Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim, Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland. 

As Manipur is under the President’s rule, it was represented by its Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

Main Points of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Speech 

  • Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said that EAST means Empower, Act, Strengthen and Transform.
  • He remarked that the Northeast is synonymous with a thriving bio-economy and bamboo industry, tea production and petroleum, sports and skills, and an emerging hub for eco-tourism.
  • He highlighted the massive investment made in the development of the region’s infrastructure in recent times, such as the construction of Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, Bhupen Hazarika Bridge over the Lohit River in Assam, 11,000 kilometres of highways, new railway lines, and the establishment of a 1,600-kilometre-long Northeast Gas Grid to ensure a reliable energy supply for industries.

Organiser of the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 

  • The Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 has been organised by the Union Ministry of  Development of North Eastern Region.

Aim of the Summit 

  • To make the potential investors aware of the region’s geographical location advantage, abundant natural resources, and skilled workforce.
  • To highlight the opportunities investors will get by investing in the region, as they will gain access to the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Countries) and BBN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal) markets.
  • To transform the region into a manufacturing and service hub.

Northeastern States of India 

Initially, seven states—Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh—were considered part of Northeast India and were famous as the Seven Sisters states. 

However, in 2002, Sikkim was officially made part of Northeast India, which now has eight states.
