The public sector company NTPC was awarded the third rank in the world for the Talent Development category at the ATD BEST Awards 2024. The award ceremony was held in New Orleans, United States of America, on 21 May 2024.
Ms. Rachana Singh Bhal, NTPC's chief general manager strategic HR & talent management, accepted the award.
In a testament to the excellent human resource management practice of the NTPC, the NTPC is the only public sector company to have won seven awards in the last eight years at the ATD BEST Awards. The ATD BEST Award is a testament to NTPC's outstanding Learning and Development practices and relentless pursuit of excellence. The public sector company has embraced technology and innovation, adopted a focused approach towards learning and development, set industry benchmarks, facilitated learning opportunities, and fostered a culture of continuous learning.
The Association of Talent Development (ATD), USA, gives the ATD BEST Awards in the field of Learning and Development. The award was instituted in 2003.
The award recognises small and large private, public and not-for-profit organisations that use talent development as a strategic business tool and demonstrate enterprise-wide success through effective employee development practices.
The government of India established NTPC in 1975 as the National Thermal Power Corporation Private Limited. In 2005, the company was renamed NTPC Limited.
It is the largest power sector company in India.
Initially, it was in the business of constructing and running a coal-based thermal power station. It later diversified into hydro, gas-based, solar and wind-based power-generating units.
At present, NTPC Group's installed capacity is 76,015 MW. It comprises 51 NTPC-owned power stations (27 coal-based, 7 gas-based, 1 hydro, 1 small hydro, and 15 solar PV).
It has 42 Joint Venture/Subsidiary stations (9 coal-based, 4 gas-based, 8 hydro, 1 small hydro, 16 solar PV and 4 wind).
The company aims to increase the non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity to 50% of its total power generation by 2032.
NTPC operates India’s largest coal-based thermal power plant, Vindhyanchal Thermal Power Plant, in Singrauli, Madhya Pardesh. It has an installed capacity of 4760 MW.
NTPC was conferred with the Mahartna status in May 2010.
