India and Nepal Sign MoUs for Eight Development Projects in Education, Health, and Agriculture

The Embassy of India in Nepal, along with several Nepali government bodies, signed Memorandums of Understanding on August 11, 2026, for eight development projects across education, health, and agriculture. These projects will be funded through Indian grant aid and are part of India's ongoing High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) framework in Nepal.

The Eight Developmental Initiatives, Carrying an Estimated Total Value of NPR 803 Million

Together, these eight projects are valued at around NPR 803 million and will be implemented through local government bodies and institutions under Nepal's administration. The agreements were signed between the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal's Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the respective project execution authorities on the Nepali side.

India and Nepal’s 8 Projects Include

The eight initiatives cover a fairly wide geographic and sectoral spread:

1. Digitalisation of the B P Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences in Dharan, Sunsari district
2. A Krishi Utpadan Sankalan Tatha Bikri Kendra in Bhojpur district
3. A Municipal Agricultural and Livestock Center in Dhading district
4. A building for Belbari Multiple Campus in Morang district
5. A 10-bed hospital in Dailekh district
6. An Agriculture Promotion Centre in Humla district
7. A cold store in Syangja district
8. A 15-bed hospital building in Sunsari district's Barju Rural Municipality

Key Priority Areas of India-Nepal MoU

These projects fall under India's HICDP framework, a programme running since 2003 that has now covered 605 projects across Nepal, including these latest eight. 

Of these, 512 projects have already been completed in sectors like health, education, agriculture, drinking water, sanitation, and connectivity, while the rest are at various stages of execution.

Beyond infrastructure, India's support for Nepal has also included gifting 1,049 ambulances covering all 77 districts and 381 school buses reaching 65 districts, many in remote areas. 

These HICDPs are notable for being identified by Nepal's local governments themselves, meaning the projects reflect genuine grassroots priorities rather than being decided top-down, a key feature of the decades-long India-Nepal development partnership.
