The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, approved the procurement of summer lentils, Moong and Urad, in Madhya Pradesh and Urad in Uttar Pradesh from farmers under the Price Support Scheme.
The approval was given at a meeting held on 24 June 2025 in New Delhi that was chaired by Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The meeting was attended by Aidal Singh Kansana, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development, Surya Pratap Shahi, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister, Devesh Chaturvedi, Union Agriculture Secretary, and other senior officials.
About the Price Support Scheme
The Price Support Scheme (PSS) is part of the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA). Apart from the PSS, the PM-AASHA scheme includes the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme and the Market Intervention Scheme.
The PSS is implemented at the request of the concerned State/Union Territories' government for specific crops.

- Pulses -gram, tur, moong, urad,
- Oilseeds- soyabean, groundnut, rapeseed/mustard, sesamum, safflower, niger seed, sunflower, and
- Copra
Features of the PSS scheme
- Under the PSS scheme, when specified agricultural commodities fall below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), central and state procurement nodal agencies purchase them directly from the farmers at the MSP.
- The central government decides the quantity of the crops to be procured in consultation with the concerned state government.
- Under the PSS, the central government provides the central procurement agencies with working capital to procure agricultural commodities.
Procurement agencies of the government for PSS
- The crops are procured by central government agencies -National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED), the National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF).
- State government agencies also procure the crops from the farmers under PSS.
Nodal body for PSS
- The Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is the nodal body of the PSS scheme.
