Yuki Bhambri wins BMW Open Tennis doubles title Sport 5 min read

Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti won the 2024  BMW Open tennis tournament title. The BMW Open tennis title, also popularly known as Bavarian International Tennis Championship, is an ATP 250 event which is played on the clay court. ATP 250 events mean that the winner gets 250 ranking points. The BMW Open is held in Munich, Germany.

Yuki Bhambri also became the first Indian tennis player to win the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, which has been held since 1899.

2nd ATP tour title for Bhambri 

The BMW Open title was the second ATP tour title for Yuki Bhambari . Last year he won the Mallorca Open doubles title, which was also a 250 ATP ranked tournament. 

In Munich, the pair of Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti defeated the German pair of Andreas Mies and Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(6), 7-6(5) in an hour and 51 minutes.

This was the first ATP title for Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti as a pair.

This victory has earned valuable ranking points for Yuki Bhambari . He has jumped to his career best ranking of world no.56 in the ATP doubles ranking.

Jean Lennard Struff wins the BMW Open singles title 

 The 33-year-old German Jean Lennard Struff won his maiden ATP title by defeating Taylor Fritz of the United States of America in the final of the BMW Open tennis title.

The Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) is an association of male  professional tennis players which organises ATP tours like Masters 1000, ATP 500 and ATP 250.

Types of Tennis Court 

According to the tennis global governing body International Tennis Federation (ITF), a tennis court has to be rectangular in shape. It shall be 23.77 metres long and the width shall be 8.23 metres for singles matches and 10.97 metres for doubles matches. 

The game of tennis originated in England where the  British aristocracy used to play the game on grass, lawn or gardens. Hence the game is also called Lawn tennis. 

The international tennis tournament is played on three types of surfaces- Grass, Clay and Hard Court.

Grass Court  is the traditional tennis court. Many tennis tournaments including Wimbledon  are played on grass .Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Serena Williams, Margaret Court and Billy Jean King have excelled on grass courts.

Clay Court is made of crushed shale stone or brick, The clay courts are more common in Europe and South America. The French Open is played on a red clay court.  Rafael Nadal is considered to be the champion of the clay court, having won 14 French Open titles.

Hard courts are normally made of synthetic or acrylic layers on top of a concrete or asphalt foundation. The US Open and Australian Open are played on hard courts. Novak Djokovic is considered to be an excellent player on hard courts.

There are four grand tennis slam tournaments: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
