Theme of World Heritage Day 2024:
- Every year World Heritage Day is celebrated with a certain theme. This year the theme of World Heritage Day 2024 has been “Discover and Experience Diversity”. In 2024, the theme provides an opportunity to reflect and engage on the world's many irreplaceable treasures. It emphasizes the importance of promoting a deeper understanding of the multitude of cultures, traditions and ecosystems that comprise our shared heritage.
History of World Heritage Day:
- The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed to UNESCO in 1982 that 18 April be designated as World Heritage Day. This idea was supported by UNESCO in its 22nd conference held in 1983.
- Since 1983, ICOMOS has taken the initiative to recommend a specific theme to guide global celebrations of World Heritage Day each year.

- It is important to note that observance of this day goes beyond merely recognizing officially listed heritage sites. This includes a broader appreciation and acceptance of all culturally significant landscapes of global, national and local significance.
