The Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, announced the state’s Yoga Policy on the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga celebration on 21 June 2025. Uttarakhand has become the first state in India to announce an official Yoga Policy.
The state government also announced the establishment of a one Spiritual Economic Zone each in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of the state to generate employment and stop migration from the hilly areas.
The state government organised a special yoga session in the state’s summer capital, Gairsain, on 21 June 2025. The session was attended by the Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, diplomats, and representatives from eight countries: Nepal, Mexico, Fiji, Mongolia, Russia, Suriname, Sri Lanka, and Latvia.
The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated worldwide with the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health."
The Uttarakhand Yoga Policy aims to develop the state as the global capital of yoga and wellness.
Established - 9 November 2000, as the 27th State of India. It was bifurcated from Uttar Pradesh.
It has 13 districts in two divisions of Garhwal and Kumaon.
Seven districts in the Garhwal Division - Haridwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi.
Six districts in Kumaon District -Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar
