India wins a historic gold in the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 in Patna

The Indian Men’s Regu team created history by winning the first-ever gold medal at the BIHAR SepakTakraw World Cup 2025, defeating Japan in the final 2-1. India finished the World Cup with seven medals- one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals.

India finished fourth on the medal tally, with Thailand at the top with four medals.

The BIHAR SepakTakraw World Cup 2025  was organised by the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) and hosted by the Sepaktakraw Federation of India at the Patliputra Indoor Stadium in Kankarbagh Patna from  20-25 March 2025. 

Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary and Sports Minister Surendra Mehta presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners up teams. 

SepakTakraw World Cup 2025 Participants and Events 

21 teams from Asia Oceania, Europe, South America, and North  America participated in the BIHAR SepakTakraw World Cup 2025.

From Asia Oceania - India, Indonesia, China, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Japan, Malaysia, Iran, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand 

Europe- France, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland

North America- United States of America 

South America - Brazil.

Events 

The World Cup features three events - Quad, Regu, and Double, separately for the Men’s and Women’s teams. There was also a Mixed category for the Quad event.

Performance of the Indian Contingents 

The Indian contingent won a total of seven medals in the BIHAR SepakTakraw World Cup 2025.

 Final Medal Tally 

A total of eight countries won medals at the BIHAR  SepakTakraw World Cup 2025. Thailand topped the medal tally while India finished fourth with nine medals.

The losing semi-finalist teams in the World Cup were awarded bronze medals.

About SepakTakraw and Sepaktakraw Federation of India 

SepakTakraw is a traditional Malaysian sport and is very popular in Southeast Asian countries. 

The sport is a mixture of football and volleyball and is also known as kick volleyball in India. 

Sepak Takraw was introduced in India in the 1980s in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

The Sepaktakraw Federation of India was established on the eve of the Delhi Asian Games in  1982.

The Federation is the sports governing body in the country.
