Murali Sreeshankar of India has won the gold medal in the long jump event at the World Athletics Portugal Sports Meet 2025 with a jump of 7.75 meters. The Maia Cidade do Desporto Athletics meet in Maia, Portugal, was a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze-level event.
The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games silver medalist Murali Sreeshankar's best jump was 7.75 metres while his second-best jump was 7.69 metres.
Poland’s Piotr Tarkowski's best jump was 7.75 meters, but his second-best jump was 7.58 meters.
As per the World Athletics rule, if there is a tie between two competitors, then the second-best jump is taken into account.
Thus, the gold medal was awarded to Murali Sreeshankar, whose second jump was better than Piotr Tarkowski's.
Piotr Tarkowski was awarded the silver medal while the bronze medal went to Australia’s Chris Mitrevski.
Murali Sreeshankar is the third Indian athlete, after javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and discus thrower Vikas Gowda, to finish in the top-three position at the Athletics' prestigious Diamond League Meet. In the 2023 Paris meet, he finished third in the long jump event.
24-year-old Indian Navy’s Ancy Sojan won a bronze medal in the long jump event at the Lugano Athletics meet in Italy. The recently held Lignano meet in Lignano, Sabbiadoro, Italy, was a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event.
The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games silver medallist, Ancy Soajin, won the bronze medal with a best jump of 6.36 meters at the Lignano meet.
Delta Amidzovski of Australia won the gold medal with a 6.47-meter jump, while South Africa’s Danielle Nolte took silver with a 6.44-meter jump.
