Vice President Dhankhar attend Nyokum Yullo celebration in Arunachal

Vice -President Jagdeep Dhankhar attended and addressed the first ever joint mega Nyokum Yullo Celebration in Boasimla, Kamle District of Arunachal Pradesh on February 26, 2025.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Union Parliamentary Affairs & Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju at the festival celebration.
The Nyokum Yullo Celebration is an agrarian festival of the Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Vice -President also felicitated Kabak Yano on the occasion
Kabak Yano is the 5th woman from Arunachal Pradesh and first woman from the Nyishi tribe to conquer the world's highest peak, Mount Everest.
Daughter of a casual worker ,Kabak Yano climbed Mount Everest on 21st May 2024.
The word Nyokum is derived from Nyok meaning land (earth) and Kum meaning collectiveness or togetherness.
The festival is linked with cultivation.
During the festival goddess of prosperity, Nyokum is worshiped for bountiful harvest and to protect the crops from drought,floods or from pestilence .
The Nyishi peoples believe that natural calamities like floods,droughts etc are due to the displeasure and wrath of the God and Goddess of nature.
The Nyokum Yullow is an occasion when the Nyishi people worship God and Goddess so that they don't get angry and bless the land with bountiful harvest,
The main prayer structure of the Nyishi is Yugang. It is made of bamboo and animals are sacrificed here to the Goddess.
No idol is worshipped and cattle like cows, mithuns, and goats are sacrificed to the god and goddess.
During the ceremony the Nyishi men and women hold hands in a circular form and sing and dance paying homage to Goddess Nyokum.
It is India’s easternmost region. The easternmost point of India, Kibithu, is located in the Anjaw district of the state.
Area Wise is the largest among eight states of the North Eastern states.
The state is mentioned in Kalki Purana, and Lord Krishna's wife, Rukmini, is believed to be from Arunachal Pradesh.
It is also known as the “Land of the Rising Sun” or the “Land of the Dawn-lit Mountains”.
The world’s second-largest Buddhist monastery is in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The world’s largest monastery, Potala Palace, is in Tibet.
After Independence, the area was named the North East Frontier Province(NEFA) and was renamed Arunachal Pradesh in 1972.
Arunachal Pradesh was initially a Union Territory, which was made the 24th state of India in 1987.
