Indian Squash prodigy Anahat Singh and Veer Chotani won the women’s and men’s singles titles, respectively at the SRFI Indian Tour PSA Challenger event.
The SRFI Indian Tour PSA Challenger event was held at the Indian Squash and Triathlon Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 17-21 March 2025.
The total Prize money for the men’s event was $15,000 and for the women’s event was also $15,000.
17-year-old Anahat Singh who won 9 PSA titles in 2004 added one more to take her career tally to ten PSA titles. At the Chennai event, she defeated top seed Akanksha Salunkhe 3-1 to bag her 10th title.
In her semi-final match, Anahat Singh defeated South African Hayley Ward 3-0 while Akanksha Salunkhe defeated fellow Indian Joshna Chinappa 3-0.
Earlier in January 2025, Anahat Singh won the Under 17 title of the British Junior Open Squash tournament.
She was also a member of the Indian girl's Squash team that won a bronze medal at the 22nd Asian Junior Team Championships held in Hong Kong in February 2025.
Veer Chotrani won his sixth PSA title by defeating Melvil Scianimanico of France 3-1 in the final. It was the first PSA title win for Veer Chotrani in India.
Veer Chotrani has won PSA titles at the 2024 White Oaks Cup and MetroWest in the USA. In 2023 he won the MetroWest, the Greenwich Open, and the PVD Squash RI Open.
The game of squash like cricket, tennis, and football was introduced by the British colonialists into India.
To popularise and govern the sport of Squash in India, the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) was established.
The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) is the sole Squash body to be recognised by the government.
