Hockey Punjab won the 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2024 by defeating Uttar Pradesh Hockey in a penalty shootout 4-3. The final was played at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar, Punjab, on 19 September 2024.
The 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2024 was organised by Hockey India at Jalandhar, Punjab, from 9 to 19 September 2024.
In the final match, both teams -Hockey Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Hockey—ended the match with a tie of 3 goals each. To break the tie and decide the winner of the championships, a penalty shootout was held.
In the penalty shootout, Punjab Hockey scored 4 goals, while Hockey Uttar Pradesh could only score 3 times. Thus, Hockey Punjab emerged the winner with a scoreline of 4-3.
The losing semi-finalist team, Hockey Haryana, took on Hockey Karnataka to decide the third and fourth spots. In the match Hockey Haryana defeated Hockey Karnataka 5-0 to win the third spot, while Karnataka came at the 4th spot,
Earlier in the semi-final, Hockey Uttar Pradesh defeated Hockey Karnataka 3-1 to qualify for the final. Punjab Hockey defeated Hockey Haryana in the penalty shoot-out 7-6 to clinch the final spot.
A total of 29 teams participated in the 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2024. The teams were divided into eight groups. The top teams from each group qualified for the quarterfinals, and the winners of the quarter-finals qualified for the semi-final stage.
