Pabitra Margherita attends Dominican President Abinader swearing-in

Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, attended the swearing-in ceremony of Luis Abinader as the President of the Dominican Republic for a second four-year term on 16 August 2024. 

Pabitra Margherita is on an official five-nation visit to the Dominican Republic (15-16 August 2024), Guatemala (17-19 August 2024), El Salvador (19 August 2024), Panama (20-22 August 2024), and Trinidad & Tobago (23-24 August 2024).

This is Pabitra Margherita's first official visit since assuming office as the Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles.

The minister's visit is part of the Indian government's policy of furthering ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Pabitra Margherita Visit to Dominican Republic 

During his visit to the Dominican Republic, Pabitra Margherita represented the government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of Luis Abinader as the President of the Dominican Republic for a second four-year term on 16 August 2024. 

In the May 2024 presidential poll held in the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader won a second four-year term. His Revolutionary Party won a majority in the Dominican Parliament.

Pabitra Margherita also met the Indian diaspora during his visit.

Pabitra Margherita visit to Guatemala

During his visit to Guatemala from 17-19 August 2024, Pabitra  Margherita will meet the President of Guatemala, Cesar Bernardo Arevalo de Leon and Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez. He will also visit the UNESCO Heritage City of Antigua.

During his visit to El Salvador, Pabitra Margherita will meet President Nayib Bukele and Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill.

Pabitra Margherita during his visit to Panama, will meet President Jose Raul Mulino and Foreign Minister Javier Martinez.

He will also visit Panama University to pay a floral tribute to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
