Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Becomes Youngest Duleep Trophy Half-Centurion

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has created history by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in Duleep Trophy history. Playing for East Zone against Central Zone in the semi-final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on August 31, 2026, the young left-hander broke a record that had stood for nearly six decades.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks 57-Year-Old Duleep Trophy Record

1. At the age of 15 years and 175 days, Sooryavanshi surpassed the previous record held by Laxman Singh, who had achieved the milestone as a 16-year-old back in 1969.
2. His innings of 92 runs came off just 81 balls, packed with seven fours and seven sixes, and lasted 118 minutes.
3.  Batting alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran, he built a strong opening partnership of 161 runs, giving East Zone a solid platform.
4. Sooryavanshi got a lucky escape on 40 when a chance was dropped off him, but he made the most of it, going after bowlers with aggressive strokeplay, including a six that took him past his half-century.
5. Unfortunately, he fell just short of a maiden first-class hundred, holing out while attempting an ambitious shot after crossing 90.
