Jil Teichmann of Switzerland defeated Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand to win the singles title of the 2025 Mumbai Open tennis tournament. The final of the 2025 Mumbai Open tennis tournament was played on 9 February 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The Mumbai Open is a WTA (Women Tennis Association)125 event and it was held in the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai from 3-9 February 2025. It is the only WTA tournament to be organised in India.
The 2025 Mumbai Open singles title was the 2nd WTA 125 title for Jil Teichmann. In 2024 she won her first WTA 125 tournament in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In the Mumbai Open, World No.117 Teichmann defeated World No. 122 Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
For her title victory,Jill Teichmann got a valuable 125 points and a winners cheque of USD 15,000. The losing finalist Sawangkaew got 81 points and a cheque of USD 8,400.
In the semi-final, Jil Teichman defeated Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, of India while
Mananchaya Sawangkaew defeated Rebecca Marino of Canada to reach the final.
In the doubles, the Russian pair of Elena Pridankina and Amina Anshba defeated India’s Prarthana Thombare and her Dutch partner Arianne Hartono 6(4)-7(7), 6-2, 10-7 in the final.
The Russian Tennis Federation has been suspended by the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) and WTA due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The Russian players can participate in the international tennis tournaments but not under the Russian flag.
The Mumbai Open is the only WTA event held in India.
It was first held in 2017 and was won by the current World No.1 women's tennis player Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
The second edition of the Mumbai Open was held in 2018 and the third was held in 2024.
The 2025 was the 4th edition of the Mumbai Open. The Mumbai Open is an outdoor tournament played on a hard court.
The Women's Tennis Association was founded by the legendary women's tennis player Billie Jean King of the United States of America in 1973.
The WTA is the world governing body of female professional tennis and organises WTA Tours.
The WTA organises the WTA 1000,WTA 500,WTA 250 and WTA 125 tournaments.
The WTA 125 tournaments are considered to be secondary events as compared to other WTA events.
