The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to speed up approvals for national highway, canal, and pipeline crossings across the state. The agreement was signed by NHAI's Regional Officer-Gandhinagar and SSNNL's Chief Engineer (QC, Tech. & CPC), in the presence of SSNNL directors and other senior officials.
The core purpose of this MoU is to cut down delays that usually crop up when two different agencies need to coordinate on overlapping infrastructure. Highway and irrigation networks often cross paths, a canal running under a proposed road, or a pipeline needing clearance near highway land. Until now, such cases required lengthy inter-departmental approvals. This agreement sets up a simplified, time-bound framework so that both NHAI and SSNNL can grant clearances faster, without compromising on planning quality.
Gujarat's extensive highway and canal network, closely tied to the Sardar Sarovar project, makes coordination between these two bodies especially important. This MoU is being seen as a model for integrated infrastructure planning, one that could improve timelines, cut costs, and strengthen connectivity while supporting the state's broader economic growth
