Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani have been included in the top 15 world’s super-rich list of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Gautam Adani made it to the list after he lost his place in 2023 due to short selling in his company's stock after the publication of the Hinderberg report. The short selling in 2023 led to an erosion in Adani's wealth, leading to his exit from the top 15 super-rich list. For the first time, every individual included in the top 15 super rich in the world has a networth of $100 billion or more.
Mukesh Ambai, with a wealth of $110 billion, is ranked 12th on the list. Mukesh Ambani is the Chairman cum Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). RIL is in the business of petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom, retail and financial services.
Gautam Adani, who has a wealth of $100 billion, has been ranked 14th on the list. Adani Group is in the business of ports, airports, power generation and transmission, green energy, edible oils, cement, and real estate, among other things.
In 2023, U.S. short-seller Hindenburg Research accused Adani and his companies of financial fraud and stock market manipulation. This led to a sharp drop in Adani's share prices, which eroded Gautam Ambani's wealth. However, after his name was cleared by SEBI and the Supreme Court, his companies' share prices have zoomed up as foreign investors invest in them.
Bettencourt Meyers, of France, owner of the famous L'Oreal company, became the first woman to have a wealth of $100 billion. The luxury cosmetic company L'Oreal's share price recorded its best year since 1998, boosting Bettencourt Meyers's wealth. She was placed 14th on the list with a wealth of $101 billion.
Carlos Slim of Mexico was included in the list for the first time and was ranked 13th with a wealth of $106 billion. He is the richest person of South America and is in the business of diversified fields ranging from construction to operating restaurants and shops.
