Mohun Bagan Super Giant football club won their second Indian Super League (ISL) Winners Shield when they defeated Odisha FC club 1-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata on 23 February 2025. 

Kolkata-based Mohun Bagan Super Giant football club, nicknamed Mariners, also became the first team in ISL history to defend its ISL Winners Shield.

The Mohun Bagan Super Giant has also qualified for the next AFC Champions League Two season. 

With the win against Odisha FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant is at the top of the league table with 52 points. The second place, FC Goa, has 42 points and three matches left, and even if it wins all its matches, it cannot overtake Mohun Bagan Super Giants on the points table. Thus, Mohun Bagan was declared the winner of the 2024-25 ISL Winners Shield.

About the ISL Winner Shield 

  • The ISL Winner Shield was introduced in the 2019-20 season of the ISL, and it is given to the team that tops the league table of the ISL in a season.
  • Thirteen football clubs compete for the  ISL Winner Shield.
  • The winner of the ISL Winners Shield also qualifies for the AFC Champions League Two. 
  • It is the second-tier competition of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)  for the Asian Football Club after the AFC Champions League Elite Cup.

ISL Playoff Title

The ISL playoff title is another tournament of the ISL

The top six teams of the ISL participate in the ISL Playoff.

The top two teams at the end of the league stage automatically qualify for the semi-finals. Sides finishing third to sixth in the league stages play themselves in a knockout format, and the top two teams qualify for the semi-finals.

The sports governing body, All India Football Federation (AIIF), signed a fifteen-year deal with the Reliance Industries -International Management Group in 2010 to organise and manage the Indian Super League.
