Years later, the table game was given its name, derived from the French words bille, meaning ball, and billiart, meaning wooden sticks.
  • The history of pool is similar to that of billiards as the game itself originated from billiards. The name "pool" comes from the betting process where pool refers to a collective bet (ante). However, in older times, pool tables were found in horse racing betting parlors.
