Manipur ended their 25-year wait to win the Dr B.C. Roy Trophy (Tier 1), also known as the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship, by defeating the defending champion West Bengal in the final.
The final of the 2025-26 season of the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship was played at the Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Complex in Amritsar, Punjab, on 30 July 2025.
Dr B.C.Roy Trophy is for boys under 15 years of age and is open to the State/Union Territory football team that is a member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Third Title for Manipur Boys
The title win for the Manipur boys in Amritsar was their third. They won the Dr B.C Roy Trophy for the first time in 1998-99 and again in 1999-2000.
In Amritsar, they faced the defending champion, West Bengal. Both Manipur and West Bengal entered the final without losing a single game in the entire tournament.
Manipur took the lead in the final with Lourembam Naocha Singh scoring in the 17th minute of the game. Manipur extended their lead in the game with goals from Ngayungmi Kashung and Amom Krish Singh to finish the match 3-0, lifting their third title.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) started the Junior Boys' National Football Championship, also known as the Dr B C Roy Trophy, in 1962.
The Trophy was named after freedom fighter and West Bengal’s second Chief Minister Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
Initially, the Championship was for boys under 19 years of age, but from the 2023-24 season, it was changed to players under 15 years of age.
Additionally, the AIFF introduced a two-tier Championship format, comprising Tier I and Tier II, starting from the 2023-24 season.
Top-ranked State/Union Territories football teams participate in Tier I, and the rest play in Tier II. There is a provision for relegation of teams from Tier I into Tier III and similarly for promotion from Tier II to Tier I.
Most successful Team (Tier-I) - West Bengal -18 times.
