The Khaan Quest military exercise started as a bilateral military exercise between the United States and Mongolia in 2003.
Since 2006, other friendly countries have been invited to participate in the exercise, and it has become multinational.
The United States Indo-Pacific Command and the Mongolian Armed Forces co-sponsor the Khaan Quest multinational military exercise.
It is hosted annually by the Mongolian Defence Force.
India was one of the few friendly countries in 2006 to be invited to participate in the Khaan Quest after it became a multinational exercise.

Like the previous year, the Indian Army contingent includes three women- one officer and two soldiers.
The multinational military exercise will focus on enhancing the participating countries ability to jointly conduct military operations to support peace operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
