PM Modi celebrate 10th international Yoga Day 2024 in Srinagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in performing a common yoga protocol session on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day on 21 June 2024. P.M. Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, performed yoga with other dignitaries at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) and Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with other dignitaries also participated in the event.
21 June is also observed as the International Day of the Celebration of the Solstice.
The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution introduced by India on 9 January 2015 to declare 21 June the International Day of Yoga. The United Nations recognised yoga's contribution to providing a holistic approach to health and well-being and its significance in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
The first International Yoga Day was celebrated in the world on 21 June 2015.
Yoga originated in India. Maharishi Patanjali is considered to be the father of Yoga. He compiled and refined various aspects of Yoga systematically in his "Yoga Sutras." He proposed the eightfold path of Yoga, popularly known as "Ashtanga Yoga," for human beings' all-around development. They are:- Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi.
The theme of the 10th 10th International Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Self and Society’.
The Union Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh, organised Yoga with health care professionals. The event was recognised by the Asia Book of Records for involving the highest number of healthcare professionals performing the Common Yoga Protocol on the International Day of Yoga 2024.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) hosted the ‘Yoga for Space" across all ISRO units and centres
The Indian Naval Warships deployed across the Indian Ocean Region and Western Pacific Ocean conducted Yoga sessions at sea and in foreign ports. The yoga sessions were conducted by INS Kolkata and INS Tabar at Djibouti port, INS Sunayna at Port Louis port, Mauritius, INS Tarkash at Salalah port, Oman, INS Kamorta at Trincomalee port, Sri Lanka and INS Saryu at Belawan port, Indonesia.
