India Wins 12 Medals at 32nd FISU World University Games 2025, Germany

The 32nd FISU World University Games 2025 concluded on 27 July 2025, with the Indian contingent winning 12 medals - two gold, five silver, and five bronze. India finished 20th in the medal tally with Japan topping the medal tally with 79 medals- 34 gold, 21 silver and 24 bronze.
India’s best-ever performance in the World University Games was at the 31st edition of the FISU World University Games 2023 in Chengdu, China, where they finished seventh overall with 26 medals - 11 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze.
The biennial Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games were held in the German cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen and Berlin from July 16 to 27, 2025.
The edition was called Rhine-Ruhr because the five cities where the games were held fell under the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany.
Athletes from 102 countries' Universities participated in the 32nd World University Games in 18 sporting events, with 234 medal events.
It was organised by the International University Students Federation (FISU).
India sent a 300-athlete contingent to the 2025 FISU World University Games. They competed in 18 sports.
First medal
India won its first medal in the World University Games in the mixed badminton event. The Indian team lost their semi-final match against Chinese Taipei 4-1 to bag the bronze medal.
It was India's first-ever medal in Badminton at the World University Games.
First medal in women's Tennis
In women's tennis, India secured its first medal at the World University Games courtesy of 20-year-old Vaishnav Adkar. She had to settle for the bronze medal after losing her semi-final match against Eszter Meri of Slovakia in a three-hour battle.
First Gold Medal
The first Gold Medal for India was won by Parneet Kaur and Kushal Dalal in the mixed team compound archery event.

The International University Students Federation (FISU) organises the World University Games.
The first Games were held in 1959 in Turin, Italy.
It is held every two years.
Previously known as the Summer Universiade, the event was renamed the FISU World University Games in its 31st edition, held in Chengdu, China, in 2021.
India has participated in the World University Games since the first edition of the games.
It is open to university athletes from the member countries of the FISU.
The FISU, or the International University Students Federation, was established in 1949.
It organises world-class sports and educational events for university students, providing opportunities to connect and exchange with students from around the world.
Members from 164 countries, National Sports Federations.
The Association of Indian Universities represents India in FISU.
