History of International Jazz Day:

Globally, International Jazz Day originated in 2011. In the same year, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared this day an opportunity to recognize jazz music and give it a voice by uniting people from all walks of life.
Since 2011, this day has gained immense importance. The occasion is especially celebrated for music lovers and musicians who gather from every corner of the world to celebrate with the enthusiasm and spirit of jazz.
The idea of International Jazz Day was introduced by jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.
Harbie chaired the event along with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO. This ensured that people from all over the world come and participate in the celebrations every year with enthusiasm.

2024 global host cities of International Jazz Day:

The Moroccan city of Tangier has been chosen as the 2024 global host city of International Jazz Day.
The 2024 edition of International Jazz Day was celebrated in more than 190 countries on 30 April. UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock have greeted the people on the occasion.
The Moroccan city of Tangier will serve as the global host. The city of Tangier will host International Jazz Day events around the world.
In partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and Tangier city, a four-day festival (April 27-30) will spotlight the city's jazz legacy. The city of Tangier, Morocco, will highlight the cultural and artistic connections between the peoples of Europe and Africa.
