International Day of Neutrality is celebrated by the United Nations on 12 December every year. The International Day of Neutrality was officially proclaimed by a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution in February 2017.

History of International Day of Neutrality:

  • On February 2, 2017, the UNGA declared 12 December as the International Day of Neutrality.
  • A resolution to celebrate the International Day of Neutrality was presented by Turkmenistan at the UNGA. It has been permanently recognised as a neutral state since December 1995.
  • The resolution also highlights the 2030 Agenda for Peace and Sustainable Development.
